Scrambler rescued from the Fifth Flatiron
Boulder County, Colo. - On Saturday, November 27, 2021, at approximately 5:19 p.m., the Boulder County Sheriff's Office received a report from a scrambler stuck near the top of the Fifth Flatiron and requested assistance in order to get off the rock safely. According to the female partner, who was hiking with the 57-year-old male scrambler from Boulder, he was exploring rock formations in the area of the Fifth Flatiron when he became stuck.
Rescuers from the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group hiked into the area of the Fifth Flatiron and were able to locate the female party who was waiting for them on the ground. Rescuers then ascended the Fifth Flatiron to affect the rescue, reaching the male subject at approximately 8:46 p.m. and then lowered him to the ground by 9:14 p.m. The overall rescue took approximately six hours.
Agencies assisting with this rescue included: Boulder County Sheriff's Office, City of Boulder Open Space and Mountains Parks, and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.
