Hiker injured in fall from Bear Canyon Trail
Boulder County, Colo. - On Saturday, October 23, 2021 at approximately 12:23 p.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a hiker who had fallen from the Bear Canyon Trail just west of the Mesa Trail. The 74-year-old hiker from Boulder, CO fell approximately 30 feet down the embankment.
A ranger from the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks was first to arrive and found the hiker on the hillside hang onto a tree. The Rocky Mountain Rescue Group arrived and secured the hiker with a rope to keep her from sliding further down the embankment. She was secured into a litter and carried back up the slope to the Bear Canyon Trail where she was then carried a short distance to an American Medical Response (AMR) ambulance and transported to a Boulder area hospital. The rescue took approximately two hours.
Agencies assisting with this rescue included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, American Medical Response, City of Boulder Open Space and Mountains Parks, and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.
