Injured Horseback Rider Airlifted

Injured horse rider rescued at Coulson Gulch Trail

Boulder County, Colo. - On Friday, June 11, 2021 at approximately 11:12 a.m., the Boulder County Communications Center was notified of an injured horse rider on the Coulson Gulch Trail.

A sixty-six year-old female from West Des Moines, IA was injured when ground gave way under her horse and the horse rolled over her. Big Elk Fire Department and Estes Park Paramedics stabilized the female and provided initial medical care. Rocky Mountain Rescue Group provided a wheeled litter evacuation to an awaiting Med Evac helicopter. MedEvac provided further medical care and flew the injured female to a Boulder area hospital with life-threatening injuries. The rescue lasted approximately three hours.

Agencies assisting with this rescue included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Estes Park Paramedics, Big Elk Fire Department, Pinewood Springs Fire Protection District, Lyons Fire Protection District, Med Evac, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, City of Longmont Button Rock Rangers.
