Boulder County, Colo - On Saturday March 20^th, 2021 at approximately 10:15 AM, Boulder County Communications was notified of a hiker who was scrambling behind the First Flatiron when he fell and injured his leg.

The 25-year-old male was scrambling on the backside of the First Flatiron when he fell approximately 20 feet. The fall resulted in a lower leg injury preventing the male from being able to walk out to the trailhead. First aid was initially provided by a passing group of hikers as rescuers responded into the scene. When rescuers from Rocky Mountain Rescue Group and Rangers from City of Boulder Open Space Mountain Parks arrived, they took over providing care for the injured party, including packaging him into a litter for evacuation. A technical evacuation was utilized to transport the injured party out to the trailhead and a waiting ambulance. The injured party was evaluated by paramedics and transported to a local area hospital for further care.

Agencies assisting with this rescue effort included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, City of Boulder Open Space Mountain Parks Rangers, American Medical Response, and Rocky Mountain Rescue Group. The rescue took approximately 4 hours.
