26-year-old snowboarder dies after colliding with tree

Boulder County, Colo. - On Sunday, February 28, 2021 at approximately 3:50 p.m., the Boulder County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a medical emergency at Eldora Mountain Resort. The caller reported that a 26-year-old male snowboarder had collided with a tree while snowboarding on the “Jolly Jug Trail” at the ski area. The caller also said that bystanders were performing CPR on the male and that he had been wearing a helmet prior to the crash. Due to the reported severity of the injuries, a helicopter from Northern Colorado Medevac was dispatched to the area along with ground-based rescue personnel and deputies from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO).

Ski patrol arrived with the patient by 3:55 p.m. and transported him down to the first aid room. Unfortunately, despite extensive efforts by medical personnel, the male party succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on scene at approximately 4:40 p.m. The decedent’s identifying information is being withheld at this time pending notification of his next of kin.

The following agencies assisted with this incident: deputies and volunteer victim advocates with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Boulder County Coroner’s Office, American Medical Response (AMR) ambulance, Nederland Fire, and Northern Colorado Medevac.

The BCSO case number for this incident is 21-1000.
