Injured skier rescued west of Nederland
Backcountry skier injures knee in area of Anchor Mine
Boulder County, Colo. - On Sunday, January 10, 2021 at approximately 10:30 a.m., the Boulder County Communications Center was notified of a skier who had injured his leg in the area of the Anchor Mine, above County Road 129J west of Nederland in unincorporated Boulder County.
The 29-year-old male was backcountry skiing when he hit a rock just beneath the snow and fell, striking his knee on an additional rock. As a result of the injury he was unable to continue out to the trailhead, prompting another member of the group to call 911 for assistance. Rescuers from Rocky Mountain Rescue Group provided first aid to the patient, including splinting the injured extremity. The injured party was packaged into a litter and a technical evacuation was conducted to remove him from the slope. The injured party was transferred to a Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) equipped with snow tracks and driven out to the parking area where he was evaluated by medical personnel from Nederland Fire. The injured party was transported from the scene by family in a private vehicle.
Agencies assisting with this rescue effort included: The Boulder County Sheriff's Office, American Medical Response, Nederland Fire Protection District, and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.
