Deceased female found near South Boulder Peak
Boulder County, Colo. - On November 23, at approximately 1:45 p.m., first responders were notified that family members were in the area of South Mesa Trail searching for a female family member they were concerned about. The 49-year-old female’s vehicle was found parked nearby in the 200 block of Eldorado Springs Drive, in unincorporated Boulder County.
Search and rescue crews began searching the surrounding area looking for the missing female. Crews searched the area on foot and via an unmanned aerial vehicle. They located a deceased female in a remote location near South Boulder Peak on Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP) property. They physically reached the decedent just before midnight on November 24.
We would like to recognize the OSMP ranger who went above and beyond by hiking and searching in very difficult terrain, in the dark, and was able to locate the victim. Because of her actions, the family can have closure and begin their grieving process.
Depending on weather conditions and resource availability, recovery operations may take several days. Temporary area and trail closures may be enacted to help with the recovery operations.
The following organizations assisted with the search: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, Boulder Emergency Squad, Front Range Rescue Dogs, and the Boulder County Sheriff's Office Victim Advocates.
The cause and manner of death, as well as the identification of the decedent, will be determined by the Boulder County Coroner’s Office. At this time, no foul play is suspected.
The associated Boulder County Sheriff’s Office case number is: #20-5183.
