Male dies after falling from the Second Flatiron while scrambling
Boulder County, Colo. - On Friday, October 30, 2020 at approximately 8:45 a.m., the Boulder County Communications Center received a call reporting that someone had fallen off the Second Flatiron and was severely injured.
City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks rangers were the first rescue units to arrive on-scene, at approximately 9:22 a.m. Upon their arrival, rangers began resuscitation efforts, assisted by Boulder Fire Department and American Medical Response. The male victim was pronounced deceased at 9:45 a.m.
Detectives from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and investigators from the Boulder County Coroner’s Office were notified and responded to the scene to investigate. Volunteer rescue personnel from Rocky Mountain Rescue Group evacuated the climber’s body from the trail.
The death investigation is on-going. At this time, foul play is not suspected. The official cause and manner of death, along with identification of the deceased, will be determined by the Boulder County Coroner’s Office.
Rescue personnel from the following agencies responded to assist: the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, Boulder Fire-Rescue, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, American Medical Response (AMR), and the Boulder County Coroner’s Office.
