Hiker evacuated after injuring ankle at Chautauqua Park

Boulder County, Colo. - On Friday, August 28, 2020, at approximately 2:17 p.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a 37-year-old female hiker with an injured ankle in the area of the First and Second Flatiron Trails. The couple from Georgetown, TX were returning from a day of hiking when the female fell backward on the trail, injuring her ankle in the fall.

A ranger from the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, along with medical professionals from American Medical Response were able to locate the couple and provided medical care for the woman. The Rocky Mountain Rescue Group then wheeled the patient in a litter to an ambulance where she was transported to a Boulder area hospital.

The rescue took approximately one and one half hours.

Agencies assisting with this rescue effort included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks and American Medical Response.
