Program Summary:

Come join in on the fun and excitement of the 146th annual Boulder County Fair and help support the event’s Zero Waste initiative! Zero Waste Champions help educate fair attendees on the importance of composting and recycling. They also explain how to properly use the Zero Waste stations located throughout the fairgrounds, while doing quality control and removing contamination.

Your support not only helps this event but pushes Boulder County even closer to its goal of “Zero Waste – or darn near – by 2025”. To make your service more enjoyable you can volunteer during any activities of interest including: Rodeo, Bull Fighting, Carnival, Parade, Craft Distillery Festival, and Demolition Derby. For info on events: http://www.bouldercountyfair.org.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Zero Waste Champions will be trained on what materials belong in the compost bin, recycling bin, and trash. They will staff the Zero Waste stations at major events, educating the public on how to properly dispose of their waste. Volunteers will also roam the fairgrounds, providing quality control by removing contamination from individual bins. Position involves a fair amount of walking outdoors in the late summer heat. Volunteers will be given the proper attire and equipment to stay safe and clean and ensure that each waste bin contains the correct material. Zero Waste Champions are a key element to the success of the Boulder County Fair!

Qualifications and Requirements:

At least 14 years of age (17 and under must have a partner or adult companion). No experience necessary.

Training Dates and Information:

Volunteers are expected to arrive 30 minutes before their first shift to receive training. A brief packet of information including training documents will be sent out prior to the fair and volunteers are expected to have read through these materials.
