Program Summary:

Join Boulder County plant ecologists for a morning dedicated to taking care of seedling trees as part of our on going fire recovery efforts.

We planted these baby Ponderosa pine trees in 2022 to help re-forest certain areas of Heil Valley Ranch following the Cal-Wood fire event that burned 10,000 acres in 2020. At the time of planting, we installed protective cages to mitigate browsing by passing ungulates, using bamboo stakes to hold them in place. These cages have done a good job at preventing significant browsing, but in the 2 years post planting, some of these cages have gotten thick with weeds, grasses or have fallen to the wayside.

Now, these little ones could use a little Tender Lovin’ Care. On project day we will be walking the landscape looking for these plantings and weeding, re-installing, or removing these cages as needed. This activity will involve walking the landscape off trail, in uneven terrain, and bending, kneeling or squatting to give the seedlings the care they need! We would be thrilled to have you join us in honor of Earth Day and out of respect for the next generation of Front Range Forests!
