Agricultural Heritage Center Tour Guide

The Agricultural Heritage Center is located at 8348 Ute Highway 66 west of Longmont.

Program Summary:

The Agricultural Heritage Center at the Lohr/McIntosh farm represents this area’s agricultural roots and pioneer history. Visitors and organized groups have the opportunity to explore the many restored buildings, museum exhibits, livestock pens, and a period-furnished farmhouse surrounded by 465 acres of agricultural open space.

Volunteer tour guides and farmhouse docents teach visitors about the agricultural history of Boulder County between 1900 and 1925.

There are also opportunities to assist with our story time and activity focused program, Fun on the Farm, during the summer.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead educational site tours for organized groups such as elementary school classes and community organizations.
  • Speak to a wide range of ages, including families, school children and seniors.
  • Open and close site for organized groups.
  • Assist with Fun on the Farm, other programs, and special events.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Be at least 14 years old (volunteers under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult parent/guardian during training and volunteer shifts).
  • Knowledge or interest in agriculture, historic preservation, and/or local history.
  • Customer service experience and a desire to work with visitors.
  • Comfortable speaking to a wide range of ages and audiences.
  • Ability to walk and talk for one to two hours at a time.
  • Computer and internet required for scheduling and to record volunteer hours.
  • Must have personal transportation.
  • Pass background check.
Training Dates and Information:
  • Attend 7 hour new volunteer training offered on March 13. (If you cannot attend the training, but would like to help in the future, please send an email to Jim Drew at jdrew@bouldercounty.gov prior to completing an application).
  • Lead or assist with at least four programs or events per calendar year.
