Transportation Sales Tax Overview

There are many ways to get around Boulder County, but rising costs, a growing population, and new technologies are changing how people use transportation. At the same time both construction and maintenance costs continue to rise.

To achieve our vision of a sustainable and inclusive transportation network, Boulder County works together to prioritize our transportation investments, explore new funding options, and plan for the future. The county’s Transportation Master Plan (TMP) provides a blueprint for Boulder County’s transportation system for the next 25 years.

In 2001, the communities within Boulder County came together to pass a one-tenth-of-one-percent percent sales tax to fund improvements to fulfill that vision, including road improvements, trail systems, transit services and community assistance programs to help underserved populations with their transportation needs. For twenty years the sales tax has funded hundreds of miles of improvements throughout the county that continue to serve residents, businesses and visitors. Future funding will be used to provide safe, sustainable, and affordable transportation choices for people throughout the county.
