Elevation Certificates

Elevation Certificates are used to provide:

  • Elevation information necessary to ensure compliance with community floodplain management ordinances
  • Determination on proper insurance premium rate
  • Support to a request for a Letter of Map Amendment or Revision (LOMA or LOMR-F).

In Boulder County, the FEMA Elevation Certificate is required to be completed for all improvements in a floodplain (approved under a floodplain development permit) that are classified as “new construction” or a “substantial improvement.” The form must be completed by a licensed surveyor registered in the State of Colorado and submitted to the Boulder County Floodplain Program in the Community Planning & Permitting Department prior to issuance of a certificate of occupancy.
