On Jan. 15, 2026, staff presented DC-25-0003: Text Amendments to the Land Use Code related to Minor Corrections, Clarifying Changes, and Updates to Comply with State Law to the Board of County Commissioners. After the presentation and recommendation from staff, public comment, and deliberation, the commissioners approved Docket DC-25-0003 by a vote of 2-0.

Background

On Sept. 16, 2025, the Boulder County Board of County Commissioners authorized Community Planning & Permitting staff to pursue text amendments to the Boulder County Land Use Code (the “Code”) related to minor corrections, clarifying changes, and updates to comply with state law. Staff propose amending the Code to address grammatical and clerical mistakes, update formatting, correct outdated references or terminology, and clarify existing provisions in the Code based on past application and policy interpretations.

Staff anticipate completing this proposed text amendment rather quickly, due to the minor nature of the proposed changes and the relatively negligible impacts to existing policies. We also expect limited public engagement regarding this text amendment due to the technical nature of the minor changes and the fact that many of the more detailed changes are based on public appeals of the Director’s interpretation of the Code, interpretations made to address questions from the public, or new requirements outlined in Colorado State law.
