The Mountain Pine and Ips Pine Engraver Bark Beetles are both native insects in our western forests, where they play a complex ecological role, contributing to forest decomposition and nutrient cycling but also capable of triggering widespread tree mortality during outbreaks.
In 2025, the Colorado State Forest Service formed a Mountain Pine Beetle Taskforce to review frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the insect. Talking points, publications, and updates are currently being developed and will be posted or linked as they become available.
