Learn More About Hard Rock Mining

The Nederland Mining Museum is just one of many ways Boulder County preserves our mining history.

Assay Office Museum

Assay office museum

Visit the Assay Office Museum in Wall Street and see where people learned if they had “struck it rich” with their mining. Miners would take the ore they got out of the mines to the assayer. He used heat and chemicals to test the ore to find out what percentage of precious minerals were in the miner’s finds.

Volunteer Opportunities

The Nederland Mining Museum is looking for volunteers to host visitors at the museum. Volunteers should have good public speaking skills, feel comfortable interacting with a wide range of people from children to seniors and be able to walk while presenting information. Attending a training course or shadowing/observing experienced guides, and the ability to volunteer mostly on weekends is also required. Contact if interested.
