Volunteers needed to assist with business 5 Star Certification Program (in English and/y en español)

Boulder County, Colo. - The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) has approved the Boulder County Administrative Committee’s application for the state’s 5 Star variance program, and volunteers are needed to help administer the program.

The Colorado 5 Star Certification Program is designed to allow certified businesses to operate one level below the county’s current state COVID dial level if the county meets specific benchmarks of COVID-19 impact. For a business to qualify for the program, it must demonstrate that it has implemented all of the required public health measures to help protect customers and staff from contracting COVID-19 and be inspected by a 5 Star Certification Program representative.

Volunteer Today

Volunteers can either be direct unpaid volunteers from the community or employees of businesses / organizations willing to volunteer their employees’ time for the program. A minimum of eight-hours per week for a minimum of six to eight weeks is needed to help implement this program throughout Boulder County. Volunteers will work with a third-party vendor, H2 Manufacturing Solutions, and will be trained for one of the following roles:

  • On-site Inspectors at Businesses
  • Administrators within H2’s Command Central team

In order to ensure the equitable deployment of the Boulder County 5 Star Program, the Administrative Committee has set up the BOCO 5 Star Fund. Funds raised will support:

  • Paying application fees for businesses interested in pursuing certification, but unable to due to financial hardship.
  • Providing grant funds for businesses to cover the costs of implementation of any public health measures required to receive certification.

Applications for 5 Star Program Now Open

Information for interested businesses about how to prepare for and complete the application is posted on Boulder County’s 5 Star Certification Program website at http://bit.ly/BOCO5STAR. The website is available in English and Spanish, and provides instructional videos, sample inspection checklists (including the general inspection and HVAC checklists), and sign resources for businesses interested in applying for the 5 Star program. Business inspections will be begin the week of Feb. 8.
