Tragic Accident in Boulder Creek Claims Life of Local Woman

Boulder County, Colo. - A tragic accident occurred this afternoon in Boulder Canyon, resulting in the death of a 65-year-old woman. At approximately 4:22 p.m., Boulder City and County Communication Centers received emergency calls reporting a woman floating face down in Boulder Creek.

First responders were quickly dispatched to the scene, utilizing information from the woman’s husband and bystanders. The unresponsive woman was located near the 40-mile marker of Boulder Canyon, just west of the popular swimming area.

Resuscitation efforts began immediately. Boulder Emergency Squad and Rocky Mountain Rescue assisted in moving the woman from the far shore across the creek to an awaiting ambulance. Despite continued CPR and life support measures administered by firefighters, police officers, deputies, and dive team professionals, the woman tragically succumbed to her injuries after being transported to a local hospital.

Preliminary reports indicate that the woman was riding e-bikes with her husband along the bike path near the creek when she fell off her bike and into the water near Boulder Canyon and Four Mile Canyon. The accident prompted a multi-agency response, including personnel from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Services, Boulder Police & Fire-Rescue, Boulder Emergency Squad, Sunshine and Four Mile Fire Protection Districts, Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks Rangers, and American Medical Response Ambulance Service.

This incident highlights the importance of safety while recreating in Boulder County, especially near water sources that may appear deceptively calm but can be hazardous. First responders urge the community to exercise caution and be aware of the potential dangers posed by local waterways.

The incident has been documented under Boulder County Sheriff’s Office case report 24-02651.
