Former Hygiene Fire Captain arrested for sexual assaults

Boulder County, Colo. -

On April 26, 2023, 30-year-old Kamron Barnaby, was arrested as part of an ongoing sexual assault investigation.

This investigation began after Sheriff’s deputies were made aware of a sexual assault allegation made by a former Hygiene firefighter against Barnaby. During this investigation four women, including two subordinate employees of Barnaby, who was a captain at the Hygiene Fire Department at the time, came forward with allegations of sexual assault against Barnaby which includes incidents that occurred while on duty.

The investigation revealed that some of the sexual assaults occurred during Barnaby’s scheduled shifts. Barnaby is currently employed by the Mountain View Fire Protection District. Based on the investigation to date, Sheriff’s Office investigators believe there are additional victims and witnesses to these crimes. Barnaby was booked in the Boulder County Jail on an arrest warrant without any bond until seen by a judge for two counts of §18-3-402(1)(a),(4)(a), Sexual Assault – Physical Force, a class 3 Felony, three counts of §18-3-402(1)(a), Sexual Assault, a class 4 Felony, two counts of §18-3-404(2)(b), Unlawful Sexual Contact – Physical Force, a class 4 Felony, 2 counts of §18-3-404(1)(a), Unlawful Sexual Contact §18-8-404, and one count of §18-8-404(1)(c), 1^st Degree Official Misconduct, a class 1 misdemeanor.

The associated Boulder County Sheriff’s Office case number is 22-04017.

Agencies who assisted with this investigation include the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office.

As in every criminal case, these charges are merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.
