St. Vrain Creek Water Rescue

Boulder County, Colo. -

On Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at approximately 12:34 p.m., the Boulder County Communications Center was notified of a person stuck on a rock on the far shore of St. Vrain Creek at Meadows Park in Lyons, CO.

An eighteen year-old female from Evans, CO was able to climb onto a rock after falling from an inner tube. Swiftwater rescuers from Lyons Fire Protection District and Hygiene Fire Protection District were able to cross the creek and access the stuck female. They evaluated her injuries and provided her with a personal floatation device and helmet. The rescuers were able to walk upstream with the female to an area of lower water flow and then assisted her with walking back across the creek. AMR transported the female to a Longmont area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The rescue lasted approximately one hour.

Agencies assisting with this rescue included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, American Medical Response (AMR), Lyons Fire Protection District, Hygiene Fire Protection District, Boulder Emergency Squad.
