Rocky Mountain Rescue Building Groundbreaking Ceremony Held April 8
Boulder County, Colo. - Boulder County Public Works and its contractor, Flintco, held a groundbreaking ceremony on April 8 for the new Rocky Mountain Rescue facility that is being constructed at 3720 Walnut Street in Boulder. The $19.9 million building will be built for Boulder County and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group using funding from the 2022 county voter-approved Emergency Services Sales and Use Tax, which has also been used to award more than $6 million in Emergency Services Grants.
The Rocky Mountain Rescue Group has been serving residents and visitors of Boulder County for more than 75 years. The new state-of-the-art county facility will be the first that was specifically designed for the group’s unique needs. The building incorporates numerous sustainable features intended to achieve net-zero performance and LEED Gold certification, which helps reduce the county’s overall carbon footprint and follows the County Commissioners’ strategic priority of Climate Action and Environmental Stewardship. Included in the building are:
- Geothermal heat pump mechanical system
- Well-insulated building envelope
- Rooftop solar arrays
- A three-story training wall for practicing a variety of mountain rescue scenarios
- Vehicle and equipment bays
- 100-person conference/training room
The facility is anticipated to open in the summer of 2027. For more information, contact Andrew Barth, Public Works Communications, at abarth@bouldercounty.gov or call 303-441-1032.
