Press Release – Sentencing in Stevie Brown Child Sexual Exploitation Case
Boulder County, Colo. - Stevie Brown was charged with 19 counts of possession of child sexual exploitation material. He was also charged as a habitual sex offender based on a prior offense in 2013, which involved attempted sexual assault on a child and sexual exploitation of a child.
In this case, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Digital Forensic Lab received information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding the viewing and possession of child sexual exploitation material at Mr. Brown’s shared residence in Longmont, Colorado. Detectives and forensic examiners conducted an extensive investigation, ultimately collecting Mr. Brown’s computer and multiple hard drives. Their analysis identified 3,229 images and one video on his laptop and various USB drives. This complex case required the advanced expertise of the digital forensic team, including their understanding of how files can be accessed, stored, and deleted across electronic devices.
Our office requested a 72‑year state prison sentence based on the defendant’s criminal history, the nature and volume of the images he possessed, and the Pre-Sentence Investigation report. The judge ultimately sentenced Mr. Brown to 48 years. Although the judge sentenced him to less than our office requested, the sentence imposed is appropriately lengthy and we are pleased that the judge recognized the serious nature of the conduct.
District Attorney Michael Dougherty stated, “This conduct is abhorrent, which is why these cases are a priority for law enforcement and prosecutors in Boulder County. I appreciate all the work that the investigators and prosecution team put into it, especially since the exploitation of kids is at the core of these cases. Their work made this outcome happen.”
