Boulder County, Colo. - Today marks one year since the firebombing attack on Pearl Street that killed Karen Diamond, injured multiple community members, and had a devastating impact on Boulder. On June 1, 2025, the attacker used makeshift incendiary devices against a peaceful gathering, harming victims ranging in age from 25 to 88, as well as a dog (Jackson).
On May 6 of this year, the defendant pled guilty to all charges and received a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus 2,128 years.
Today, the District Attorney’s Office honors the bravery and resilience of the victims and their families. We recognize the physical, emotional, and psychological toll this attack has taken, and we stand with all who continue to heal, as well as with the Jewish community. Our office remains committed to supporting the victims and reaffirming that acts of hate and terror have no place in our community.
As we reflect on this day, we also extend our gratitude to law enforcement, first responders, medical personnel, and community members whose actions helped protect lives and foster recovery in the aftermath of the attack.
District Attorney Michael Dougherty stated, “Our thoughts are with every victim and family impacted by this attack. Today, we honor the extraordinary courage and resilience each survivor has shown over the past year. We also extend our deep appreciation to the first responders, investigators, and community members who supported the victims from those very first moments and throughout this difficult year. Although justice was done in the criminal case, the trauma and healing continues on.”
