Nov. 19 Informational Meeting on Proposed Building Code and Amendment Updates

Community Planning & Permitting Dept. has started the process of updating the building code and related amendments


Boulder County, Colo. - The Boulder County Community Planning and Permitting Department is in the process of updating our building code and amendments. We value your input and would like to invite you to a public informational meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 19 where Ron Flax, Deputy Director/Chief Building Official, will share our proposed changes and gather feedback from the community.

When: Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024
Time: 4:30-6 p.m.
Location: Commissioners Hearing Room, 3rd floor of the Historic Courthouse located at 1325 Pearl St., Boulder, CO 80302.

This in-person meeting will be an opportunity to learn more about the updates being considered, ask questions, and share your thoughts. Your feedback is essential to making sure our building codes best serve our community.

As a reminder, the Boulder County Building Code Amendments apply in the unincorporated areas of Boulder County, not in incorporated cities or towns like Boulder or Louisville.

We encourage all residents, business owners, and other stakeholders to participate. Please feel free to forward this invitation to who may be interested.

Background

Boulder County staff have started the process of updating the building code and related amendments from the 2015 to 2021 I-Codes. The county aims to adopt the updated building codes in early 2025.

The goals of the update include:

  • Update Building Code to the 2021 Versions and Coordinate Boulder County with:
    • The International Code Council (ICC)
    • The Metropolitan Regional Building Policy Code Cohort & Colorado Energy
      Code Compliance Collaborative.
    • The Colorado Model Electric and Solar Ready Code (HB22- 1362)
  • Continued leadership with regards to energy efficiency in buildings.
  • Provide "Best in Public Service" with regards to building safety and affordability.
  • Add clarity and formality to existing policies.
  • Protect Boulder County's excellent Building Code Effectiveness Grading Schedule Rating.
  • Simplify and shorten the Boulder County Code Amendments.
