Niwot’s Abo’s Pizza Damaged by Structure Fire

Local businesses may be closed due to smoke damage

Boulder County, Colo. - On Saturday, August 6, 2022 at approximately 0530 hours, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a structure fire. The fire was reported at Abo’s Pizza, 7960 Niwot Rd, Boulder County, CO.

Mary Jo, an employee of the Winot Coffee Co, was opening the coffee shop for the day. Mary Jo smelled the smoke, located the area it came from and called 911. Winot Coffee Co shares a parking lot with Abo's Pizza. A crew from the Mountain View Fire Protection District were first on-scene shortly followed by the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. Mary Jo was able to inform first responders Abo's Pizza was likely unoccupied. As fire personnel forced entry, smoke billowed from the front door and they cleared the building for victims. Once the building was confirmed to have no victims inside, fire personnel began fighting the fire.

Before the fire was extinguished, units from the Boulder Rural Fire Department and the Longmont Fire Department arrived on scene to assist. Approximately one hour and fifteen minutes after the fire was reported, it was extinguished.

Abo’s Pizza is located in a strip mall and shares walls with other businesses. Multiple businesses may not open in the area today due to smoke being in the businesses.

A fire investigator from the Mountain View Fire Protection District arrived on scene to investigate the cause and manner of the fire. The investigation is ongoing.

Agencies assisting with the structure fire included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Mountain View Fire Protection District, Boulder Rural Fire Department and the Longmont Fire Department.
