Man dies from fall near Allenspark
A 70-year-old man appeared to have slipped near the edge of a 25-foot cliff
Allenspark, Colo. - On May 24, at approximately 5:45pm, the Allenspark Fire Department, AMR Ambulance, and sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to an unconscious 70-year-old man found facedown the on the shoulder of the road near the 800 Block of Highway 7 Business Route south of Allenspark. Rescue personnel arrived on scene and began lifesaving efforts. A Medevac helicopter was called to respond to the scene, however the helicopter was later cancelled when the man was determined to be deceased.
Upon interviews and investigation by sheriff’s office detectives and the coroner’s office it was learned that the man and his wife stopped for a break on the shoulder of Colorado Highway 7, which sits approximately 30 feet vertically above Business Highway 7. The man got out to stretch his legs and his wife became concerned when he did not return after approximately 20 minutes. She found him after a brief search at the bottom of a 25 foot drop-off, a short distance away from the vehicle. Investigators noted that there were slippery grasses and pine needles near the edge of the cliff.
At this time there is no evidence of foul play and nothing suspicious, with all signs pointing to a tragic accident. Identification of the deceased male and a formal determination of his cause and manner of death are pending further investigation by the Boulder County Coroner’s Office.
The case number associated with this incident is 19-2886.
