Juvenile suspect arrested for a series of crimes in the Town of Superior
Boulder County, Colo. - A juvenile suspect was arrested for a series of crimes that took place in August and September of 2018 in the Town of Superior. The male juvenile turned himself into the Juvenile Assessment Center at the Boulder County Justice Center today, January 17, 2019.
The suspect is a 15-year-old male, whose name will not be released due to his status as a juvenile. An arrest warrant was issued for the juvenile in connection to the crimes, which includes the following cases.
On August 13, 2018, several residents in the subdivision of North Torreys Peak and Castle Peak were victims of arson. The first victim, who resides in the 3000 block of Castle Peak Avenue, had First Degree Arson occur on their deck and had a fire on the ground of their back yard near the fence line. A second victim, who residents in the 3000 block of Huron Peak Place had First Degree Arson occur on their deck/staircase and Second Degree Arson occur because the cushions and pillows from their patio furniture were burned. The third victim, who also resides in the 3000 block Huron Peak Place, had attempted First Degree Arson occur due to the damage to the deck footers from a fire.
The next criminal act in the Castle Peak subdivision happened on September 20, 2018, at a residence located in the 3100 block of Castle Peak Avenue. This act was an arson that occurred in a house. An accelerant was poured on the staircase and ignited. Once the stairs were ignited the suspect took a pillow from a nearby couch and placed it on the fire in order to fuel the fire. In this case, First Degree Arson, Fourth Degree Arson and Second Degree Burglary occurred because unlawful entry was made into the home and a fire was set on the staircase of the home.
The last criminal act in the Castle Peak subdivision occurred on September 24, 2018, in the 2900 block of Shale Court, when the suspect was seen on a doorbell video trying to break into the residence which is an attempted Second Degree Burglary and attempted First Degree Criminal Trespass.
Detectives with Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, the Boulder County Multi-Agency Fire Investigation Team (MAFIT) and an arson investigator with Longmont Public Safety assisted with the investigation.
The male juvenile has been charged with the following:
- First Degree Arson, a Class 3 Felony (3 counts)
- Second Degree Burglary, a Class 3 Felony
- Fourth Degree Arson, a Class 4 Felony
- Criminal Attempt (Second Degree Burglary), a Class 4 Felony
- Criminal Attempt (First Degree Arson), a Class 4 Felony
- Criminal Attempt (First Degree Criminal Trespass), a Class 6 Felony
- Second Degree Arson, a Class 2 Misdemeanor
- Firing Woods or Prairie, a Class 2 Misdemeanor
