Injured party rescued west of Camp Dick Trailhead

Boulder County, Colo. - On Monday, September 2, 2019 at approximately 1:37 p.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a female who had injured her ankle west of Camp Dick.

The incident was reported via 911 to the Boulder County Communications Center by parties who came upon the hikers on the Buchannan Pass Trail approximately one and a quarter miles west of the Camp Dick Trailhead. The amateur radio system (ham radio) was used to report the accident.

Rocky Mountain Rescue Group members hiking in the area were the first rescuers on scene. The woman was carried in a litter to a 4 wheel drive vehicle that then transported her to the parking lot. The woman was then driven to the hospital in a private vehicle. The rescue lasted approximately two and one half hours due to her location.

Agencies assisting with this rescue included: Allenspark Fire Protection District, Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.
