Injured Hiker at Walker Ranch Open Space
Boulder County, Colo. - On Saturday, July 13, 2019, about 3:30 p.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an injured hiker, who was suffering from an apparent heat related injury, On the Walker Ranch Loop Trail.
A male in his early 20’s had gone for a hike with friends when he began feeling ill. His condition rapidly deteriorated and his friends were able to get to an area where they could call 911. It was later learned that the victim had not consumed enough fluids, nor did he pack enough extra fluids given the heat conditions that were experienced.
Once notified, rescue personnel responded to the Walker Ranch Open Space to begin their search for the victim. When he was located, rescue personnel began providing aid and promptly requested a helicopter for a medical evacuation. Rescue personnel remained with the victim and continued to provide medical care until the arrival of the helicopter. The victim was transported to a metro area hospital for more advanced care.
The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the rescue by the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, Boulder County Parks and Open Space, City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, Coal Creek Fire Protection District, American Medical Response (AMR), and Flight For Life.
