Boulder County, Colo. — Boulder County residents, as well as all Longmont and Erie residents, can sign up now for the heat pump group buy program, Switch Together. Switch Together makes it easier and more affordable for residents to upgrade to a highly efficient, all-electric heat pump at home. Participants can expect to save about 20% off market price on their install, or about $4,500 off an average-sized 3-ton system.

Heat pumps are a highly efficient and all-electric technology that both heat and cool buildings by moving heat, rather than creating it. Upgrading to a cold-climate heat pump from a gas furnace or an electric baseboard heating system at home means simple all-season comfort and healthier air.

All Boulder County residents, as well as all residents of Longmont and Erie, may join Switch Together. There is a $150 fully refundable deposit that secures your place in the program, but that will be returned to you if you choose to not participate.

To secure the group buy discount, the Switch Together team organized a “reverse auction,” where local, qualified installers competed to offer quality services at prices that reflect a bulk discount. Exact discount amount will vary from home to home depending on several factors, including size of the heat pump.

“Group purchase programs are a great way to make climate-friendly technologies, like heat pumps, more accessible for homeowners at a time when everything is getting more expensive,” says Boulder County Commissioner Marta Loachamin. “The model is a win-win for our residents and our business community. We’re hopeful that partnering with Switch Together will bring more heat pumps to Boulder County.”

“Heat pumps are an increasingly important solution for Boulder County residents, especially after a record-breaking hot summer” says Zac Swank, deputy director of Boulder County’s Office of Sustainability, Climate Action, and Resilience. “Heat pumps offer both heating and cooling, providing clean air and temperature-controlled comfort all year round.”

How to Participate

Visit the Switch Together website to learn more and sign up, with no obligation to purchase a heat pump. Participants will complete a brief survey about their home that the Switch Together team will use to provide a personal heat pump installation recommendation and offer. A $150 fully refundable deposit secures your place in the program. Offers must be accepted by November 8 to participate in the program.

Boulder County residents may be eligible for several available rebates and discounts that can be combined with savings from Switch Together, including income-qualified rebates from Boulder County’s EnergySmart program and:

Please note, these rebate and discount programs are not managed by Boulder County and are subject to change. Please work with your contractor and/or the programs directly to confirm eligibility, as each home installation is unique and may qualify for different rebate amounts.
