Grass fire extinguished near 75th and Valmont

Small grass fire burned approximately 3 acres

Boulder County, Colo. - On Sunday, March 7, 2021 at 11:30 a.m., the Boulder County Communications Center received several calls reporting a possible grass fire in the area of the 2500 block of N. 75th Street in unincorporated Boulder County, Colorado. Upon arrival, responders learned that a controlled burn being performed on private property got out of control after winds picked up out of the east, pushing the fire westbound towards N. 75th Street. For the safety of fire personnel, N. 75th Street had to be shut down for approximately one hour as firefighters worked to extinguish the fire along the edge of the roadway. The fire was under control and the roadway was reopened by approximately 12:45 p.m., though several fire resources remain on scene tending to hot spots.

The controlled burn had been properly phoned in prior to the property owner beginning the burn earlier in the morning. The fire burned approximately three acres of agricultural grassland. No individuals were injured, and no structures were damaged.

The following agencies assisted with this incident: Mountain View Fire, Boulder Rural Fire, Lafayette Fire, Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, and City of Boulder Open Space Mountain Parks.

The case number for this incident is 21-1137.
