District Attorney Holds Second Fresh Start Event Nov. 2
Program is designed to give individuals an opportunity to resolve their warrants and move toward a resolution in their case
Boulder County, Colo. -- The Boulder County District Attorney's Office is pleased to announce another Fresh Start event is scheduled for this fall. The Fresh Start program is designed to give individuals with active warrants stemming from non-violent, low-level misdemeanor or traffic cases an opportunity to resolve their warrants and move toward a resolution in their case.
The next Fresh Start event will be held at the Boulder County Combined Court in Longmont. Individuals with warrants in qualifying cases can speak with a representative from the District Attorney’s Office to either resolve their case or set the case for a new court date. Regardless of the outcome on that day, the warrant for the individuals’ arrest will be vacated if they appear for court on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019.
What: Fresh Start Event
When: Saturday, Nov. 2 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Where: Boulder County Combined Court,
1035 Kimbark Street, Longmont
Details: This event does not require an appointment to be seen
Individuals can check their eligibility for the Fresh Start program by visiting bouldercounty.gov/district-attorney or calling 303-413-7574. The November event will also have volunteers, attorneys from the Boulder County Criminal Defense Bar, and immigration attorneys to help answer questions. The event does not require an appointment to be made in advance.
The first Fresh Start event was held in April at the Boulder County Justice Center in Boulder. It is believed to have been the first such event in the State of Colorado. More than 30 warrants were resolved at that first event. As promised, no one that came to the courthouse that day was arrested on a warrant.
This program is a great collaborative effort between the Boulder DA’s Office, the defense bar, judges, and the Sheriff’s Office.
District Attorney Michael Dougherty stated, “Based on the great success at the first event, we are excited to host one in Longmont. By giving eligible individuals this opportunity, we hope to keep them from cycling in and out of the jail on minor offenses. We can enhance community safety if we help people get back on the right track and not re-offend. That is why the District Attorney’s Office utilizes diversion, restorative justice, and Fresh Start.”
