Cone Zones: 61st Street to be CLOSED for culvert replacement project Jan. 19 to 26

Project will also require use of temporary traffic signals; expect travel delays

Boulder County, Colo. - This week, Boulder County Public Works will begin a culvert replacement project on 61st Street just south of Andrus Road. In order to expedite the project and safely install the culvert, 61st Street will be closed in both directions just south of Andrus Road for seven days starting Tuesday, Jan. 19, weather permitting. Detours will be established on the Diagonal Highway/CO 119 and 75th Street. See a map of the project site and road closure locations.

General working hours are 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The overall project is expected to last through May 2021, weather permitting. After the full closure has been lifted, 61st Street will be reduced to one-lane for an extended period of time, which will require the installation of a temporary traffic signal to help move alternating traffic. When the traffic signal is not needed, flaggers will be on-site guiding travelers safely around the construction zone. Cyclists will need to merge with motor vehicle traffic in the available travel lane. Running a red light at the temporary traffic signal is against the law and could result in fines and/or a summons. It is imperative that all travelers wait for a green light and obey the 15 MPH speed limit during construction.

The City of Boulder will also be working along Andrus Road this winter and spring to complete phase one of their Andrus to Airport Multi-Use Path Project. This effort will also require lane reductions and reduced travel speeds. More information about this work can be found on the city’s project website. With both projects taking place in the same area at the same time, alternate routes are advised.
