Jeff Martin Appointed as Boulder County Coroner

Boulder County, Colo. -

The Boulder County, Board of County Commission, after a unanimous vote, appointed Jeff Martin to fill the vacancy of Coroner. He will deliver his appointment speech on Tuesday February 20th at the Historic Downtown Courthouse. Coroner Martin will hold the office until January 14, 2025. Upon joining the Boulder County Coroner’s Office in 2021, as the Chief Deputy Coroner, Jeff went to work on policy and practice improvements that have enhanced service to families and service partners. Notably, he established a successful state-wide peer group for coroners and chief deputies, co-authored a mass fatality plan template for smaller coroner offices around the state, produced an educational video for physicians regarding death certification, and has begun work on Colorado’s first draft of practice guidelines for Medical Examiners and Coroners.

Coroner Martin has fostered an environment of teamwork by creating new procedures which enhance efficiency and empower staff to provide the best is public service. Coroner Martin re-invented the post-COVID internship program with a more formal approach to teaching and immersion as an investment in the future of medicolegal death investigators. Through a newly created outreach program, Coroner Martin has reinvigorated better communication and education for the public as well as training opportunities and professional development for staff. The Boulder County Coroner’s office will begin hosting regular Open House Events, Tours and Town Hall meetings beginning in March of 2024.

Coroner Martin has over 32 years of combined experience in the field of medicolegal death investigation and law enforcement investigations. Coroner Martin has worked for the District 1 Medical Examiner’s Office in Florida, the Inspector General’s Office in Florida, the State of Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office in Tulsa, and the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office. He has held various positions to include Deputy, Investigator, Chief Investigator, Internal Affairs Director, Director of Operations, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Deputy Coroner. Coroner Martin has experience in all divisions of the office to include pathology, investigations, and administration.

Coroner Martin, his wife Jessica and daughter Kaylei moved to Colorado in June of 2021. Coroner Martin immediately began integrating himself into the community through participation on the advisory board for the Boulder Valley School District’s criminal justice program and as a head basketball coach with the St. Vrain Valley School District. Coroner Martin has four children and three grandchildren. Coroner Martin loves the Rocky Mountains, Colorado Old West History and calls Colorado his forever home. Coroner Martin has already filed to run as a candidate for Coroner in the November 2024 General Election.
