Become a Volunteer Naturalist with Boulder County

Boulder County, Colo. - Boulder County Parks & Open Space is accepting applications for the 2025 Volunteer Naturalist training class. The application deadline is Thursday, Oct. 31, or until filled.

Volunteer Naturalists are trained and supported in developing and presenting indoor and outdoor interpretive programs on the natural history of Boulder County to participants of all ages. Volunteer Naturalists work together to create and develop interpretive programs that include nature hikes, slideshows, and hands-on environmental education experiences for the public, schools, and community groups.

Boulder County is looking for people who are excited and eager to work with schools and youth in the community.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old, agree to a background check, and attend the 10-week training program.
  • Must have some ongoing weekday availability.
  • Applicants are required to present at least four interpretive programs in 2025.

Training Information

Training classes take place every Friday from Jan. 10 through March 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Longmont. The 10-week training program will teach volunteers about interpretive techniques to connect audiences with nature and information about local geology, plants, ecosystems, wildlife, and agriculture.
