Annual summer paving of county roads starts Tuesday

Avoid construction zones, if possible

Boulder County, Colo. – Boulder County Public Works Departments’ Road Maintenance Division will begin annual paving operations on county roadways on Tuesday, July 12. The work will take place between 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and is expected to last through August, weather permitting. Work will take place in the following order:

  • 79th Street between CO Highway 52 and Niwot Road
  • Monarch Road between 79th Street and the Diagonal Highway
  • 73rd Street between the Diagonal Highway and Niwot Road
  • Niwot Road between the Diagonal Highway and 73rd Street
  • 63rd Street between Jay Road and the City of Boulder limits
  • 2nd Avenue in Niwot
  • Valmont Road between Boulder Creek and 61st Street
  • See map

Construction on each segment will take approximately one week, with the exception of 2nd Avenue in Niwot, which should take two to three days. Paving operations will include milling of the old road surface and the addition of a layer of new asphalt. Motorists and cyclists can expect single lane closures in work zones. Flaggers will be used to guide travelers safely around construction operations, so expect delays and please use caution when passing through the zone.

Olde Stage Road Project Starts mid- to late July

A large repaving project will also take place on Olde Stage Road between Lee Hill and Lefthand Canyon drives. This project is not part of the annual paving program. Work on this project is anticipated to start towards the end of July and last through October. Learn more about this project. More information will be shared as soon as the construction start date is solidified.

While Boulder County Public Works strives to complete all projects on-time, work is weather dependent and there may be delays due to rain or other unfavorable working conditions.
