120th Street Reconstruction (Overlook to Dillon) Starts Monday
Full Closure of 120th Will Start in Late May
Boulder County, Colo. - Starting next Monday, April 20, Boulder County Public Works, in partnership with the City of Lafayette, will complete a major roadway reconstruction and safety improvements project on 120th Street between Overlook Drive and Dillon Road. The project will be completed in two phases to minimize the duration of a full roadway closure of120th Street that is necessary to complete construction.
Travel Impacts
Phase 1 will take place between Overlook Drive and the southern entrance to Rock Creek Circle. All of 120th Street will remain open in both directions during this phase, but the roadway will be narrowed and speeds will be reduced to accommodate construction. Phase 1 is anticipated to start next Monday, April 20 and will last approximately one month.
Phase 2 is anticipated to start the final week of May and will take place between the southern entrance to Rock Creek Circle and Dillon Road. During this phase, 120th Street will be fully closed to all travelers for up-to five months, weather permitting.
Access to the Vista Business Park, Rock Creek Court, Commerce Court, and Rock Creek Circle will be maintained from the north during the Phase 2 closure.
We anticipate finishing the project and reopening 120th Street in October.
Roadway Improvements
Construction will widen the road to accommodate two five-foot paved shoulders with two-foot painted buffers that will help separate shoulder users, like bikes and pedestrians, from motor vehicle travel, and include safety improvements to the bridge over Northwest Parkway in the City and County of Broomfield. The additional shoulder width will also provide room for disabled vehicles and emergency responders. The project will also flatten some of the steep hills to reduce fuel use and noise from large trucks that frequently travel this road. In addition, a northbound lefthand-turn lane will be added at the northernmost Rock Creek Circle intersection to improve safety. The project will also tie into the improvements the City and County of Broomfield have already completed at the Dillon Road intersection.
