In August 2023, a storage building on the Suitts Open Space was partially destroyed by fire. The storage building was built in two parts. The eastern portion was built in 1963 and is the section of the storage building destroyed by fire. The building was a metal skinned building with a steel superstructure and a metal roof. The western section was built in 1964 and had smoke and water damage. The total square footage of the building was 5280. The eastern portion had 2820 square feet and the western part has 2460 square feet. The barn is located at 7432 Nelson Road in Longmont, Colorado. The building was primarily used for storage of equipment, tools, materials, and occasionally used as a workspace. The building had radiant tube heat, lighting, and electrical outlets. There were metal cages separating storage areas for the various workgroups. Access was through three overhead garage doors and six metal swing doors. The destroyed portion of the building had six sliding windows and fiberglass roof panels for natural light. The walls and roof were insulated with one (1) inch of closed cell foam and R-19 fiberglass insulation with a fire rated covering. There is a plumbing rough-in to Onsite Wastewater System, but the building current does not have water. The primary goal of this project is to replace the destroyed portion of the barn with similar type and size of structure and complete the interior furnishing. Repair the existing structure and seamlessly connect both. Secondary goals are to connect to water and the onsite wastewater system.
