Fun on the Farm: The Chicken & the Egg

Agricultural Heritage Center 8348 Ute Hwy, Longmont

Children ages 3-6 will love to visit the farm to learn about animals, plants, and agricultural life. The Chicken & the Egg introduces kids to all the cool things about chickens and eggs, while being surrounded by our own farm flock. All programs include a short story time, hands-on activities, and a take-home craft. Afterwards, explore the farm. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration for most programs begins on the 20th of the month before the event. Registration is not required for this activity, but you can still sign up to be notified in case the event is unexpectedly canceled. Hammering On the Farm

Agricultural Heritage Center 8348 Ute Hwy, Longmont

Drop by anytime from 10 a.m. to noon to watch the blacksmith work his craft. Listen to the clang-clang-clang of the hammer and the hum of the coal forge blower. Learn about blacksmithing tools, such as hammers, tongs, anvils, swage blocks, and more. All ages welcome. Registration for most programs begins on the 20th of the month before the event. Catfish Night

Summer Catfish Night is an opportunity for anglers to fish at night when Stearns Lake is usually closed. Bring your family and friends and enjoy a summer night fishing at the lake! Anglers must have current Colorado fishing license (kids under 16 years don’t need a license) Open to shore fishing only Artificial and live bait permitted Check-in required at the trailhead on South 104th Street Registration not required. Event will not be canceled due to rain. Note: access the trailhead from Dillon Road on South 104th Street. You cannot get to the trailhead from 287 through Rock Creek Farm. Astronomy: Aurora Borealis

Ron Stewart Preserve at Rabbit Mountain 14950 N. 55th St., Longmont

Join volunteer naturalists and astronomers from the Longmont Astronomical Society for a summer night astronomy program. Together, we'll learn about the night skies and view the celestial bodies residing in our galaxy and beyond. What are the auroras? We don’t often see the auroras in Colorado, but this may be a good year for them to show their colors. Join us to learn about what they are and how to have a chance to catch the show. Bring a chair or blanket, a light jacket, and a red flashlight, and get ready to enjoy a night out with the family. The presentation is at the picnic shelter. It is followed by stargazing in the parking area. Telescopes are provided by the Longmont Astronomical Society. Registration for most programs begins on the 20th of the month before the event.
