Restraining Orders

Information

The District Attorney’s office does not handle restraining orders because they are a civil matter. However, a violation of a restraining order is a criminal offense that would be prosecuted by a DA. Detailed information on the entire process is available in Spanish or English at 303-441-3775.

There is also assistance provided from any local women’s shelters. The Safehouse shelter has two advocates to help with the paperwork.

SPAN’s Protective Order Clinic is in Room #2 of the Client/Lawyer Conference Rooms of the Justice Center (1777 6th St. First Floor, Conference Room #2 Boulder, CO 80302). They can assist with filling out the applications for both temporary and permanent restraining orders as well as attend the hearings, if necessary.

Boulder County Legal Services can prepare for a permanent restraining order hearing if there is adequate time. Interviews are on Tuesday mornings and Wednesday afternoons, and it is extremely important to bring all court documents, police reports, and the TRO/PRO paperwork for this interview to be held.
