Services for Older Adults

Getting older doesn’t mean losing your independence.

In Boulder County, almost 34,000 people are over 65. Our services for older adults are designed to help people live independently and safely in their communities. We provide assistance with health coverage, long-term care, financial aid, and many other support services. We also offer protective services for adults of all ages.

Where can I find help with my finances, insurance, and other needs?

We have several assistance programs to help older adults.

  • Old Age Pension (OAP) provides cash benefits and in some cases Medicaid for those 60 and older who have little or no income.
  • Long Term Care Medicaid offers eligible individuals comprehensive services, including in-home and community-based assistance, the Program for All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), and extended nursing home or hospital care. It aims to support those with various mental and physical health needs, helping people remain in their community.
  • The Medicare Savings Program (MSP) helps people with limited income and resources pay for some or all of their Medicare premiums; in some cases, it and may also pay their insurance, deductibles, and co-insurance. Eligibility requirements apply.

Additional resources to support older adults:

  • The Boulder County Area Agency on Aging (AAA) delivers, funds, and advocates for services that promote well-being, independence, and dignity for older adults, people living with disabilities, caregivers, and veterans in Boulder County.
  • Burial Assistance provides financial assistance to help pay for reasonable and necessary funeral and burial expenses for low-income Boulder County decedents.
  • Adult Protection Services (APS) in investigates abuse, neglect, or financial harm to vulnerable adults over 18, offering protective services like case management and referrals. If you’re worried about an adult’s safety, call 303-441-1309.
