The Boulder County Commissioners wish thank the agencies who submitted Request for Funding proposals for the 2020 Worthy Cause pool fund. The funding pool was extremely competitive this year with $8.1 million in funding requests and approximately $3.3 million available for awards. The quality of projects was high, and we faced difficult decisions in our award recommendations.

"Each year, as we review the high caliber of requests for Worthy Cause funds, we're reminded of the generosity of our residents who have voted four times in support of funding critical capital improvement projects that allow our nonprofit human services agencies to continue to provide essential services within our community," said Boulder County Commissioner Deb Gardner. "We are overwhelmed by the sense of community these funds help create."

The review process for Worthy Cause pool fund applications includes an evaluation by a multi-departmental staff team, during which the applications are reviewed alongside the program criteria and requirements. The project proposals are then reviewed by us, the Board of County Commissioners, with further vetting by staff where necessary.

The 2020 pool marks the second year of Worthy Cause IV, approved by the voters in 2018. Tax revenue in support of Worthy Cause was approved for an additional 15 years, allowing Worthy Cause IV to continue until 2034.

The 2020 funding package for the Worthy Cause pool includes the following projects:

Inn Between of Longmont	$250,000	Capital purchase of an apartment building to create 8-15 affordable units in Longmont.
Meals on Wheels of Boulder	$100,000	Construction of a new facility at 3701 Canfield Street in Boulder.
Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence	$50,000	Capital improvements to the SPAN Emergency Shelter in Boulder.
TLC Learning Center	$100,000	Capital improvements to TLC Learning Center at 611 Korte Parkway in Longmont.
TRU Community Care	$200,000	Assist with the developed TRU Community Care facility at 2593 Park Lane in Lafayette.
Urban Land Conservancy	$200,000	Assist with purchased land to ensure permanent affordability for 10 homes in Gunbarrel.
YMCA of Boulder Valley	$150,000	Construction/remodel of YMCA facility to provide space for Head Start programming at 2800 Dagny Way in Lafayette.
YWCA Boulder County	$271,000	Capital improvements to the YWCA facility at 2222 14th Street in Boulder.

Worthy cause funds must be allocated to local human services nonprofit organizations or housing authorities for use in capital projects, including building purchase, remodeling, and/or debt reduction. Debt reduction refers to payments toward capital debts such as mortgages and loans for construction/renovation.
