Injured Hiker on the Mt. Sanitas Ridge Trail

Boulder County, Colo. - On Thursday, August 8, 2019, about 9:25 a.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about an injured hiker on the Mt. Sanitas Ridge Trail, located in unincorporated Boulder County.

A female hiker in her late 50’s was hiking on the Mt. Sanitas Ridge Trail when a preexisting medical condition caused her to fall. When she fell she rolled about 20 feet down the hill and suffered non-life threatening injuries. She was assisted by other hikers on the trail, who called 911 and remained with her until rescue personnel where able to hike into her location.

Once on scene, rescue personnel began more advanced medical care. Additionally, personnel from multiple agencies worked together to coordinate the evacuation of the injured hiker. The hiker was carried out of the field on a wheeled litter commonly used for this type of evacuation. Once at the ambulance she was further evaluated and released to a family member, who took her to a local medical facility.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the rescue by the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, the City of Boulder Fire Department, City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, and American Medical Response (AMR).

The associated Boulder County Sheriff’s Office case number is: #19-4534
