Week 26: June 23-June 29
Rabies
- Two bats and one raccoon were submitted for testing, and all specimens tested negative.
- Boulder County has had two positive rabies specimens to date, both bats.
- Statewide, 17 bats have tested positive for rabies in 2024.
- In 2023, 55 specimens tested positive statewide for rabies: Bat (47), Skunk (8).
Mosquitoes
- Nuisance (non-vector) mosquito counts were just above the five-year average for the week.
- Culex (vector) mosquito counts were below the five-year average for the week.
- Boulder County recorded no positive West Nile pools this week.
- Ten human cases of West Nile virus (WNV) have been reported nationwide. To date, one human case of WNV has been reported in Colorado’s Arapahoe County.
- Statewide, in 2023, 634 cases of WNV were reported, with 51 deaths. Boulder County recorded 29 cases.
Plague/Tularemia/Hantavirus
- One rabbit was submitted and tested positive for Tularemia.
