Former Deputy Arrested After Overnight Shootings at Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Headquarters and Broomfield Police Department

Boulder County, Colo. - At approximately 12:02 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call from a male reporting anxiety. The caller phoned back at 12:08 a.m., and while he was in the process of being transferred to the Westminster Police Department, because he was calling from inside their jurisdiction, he made threats toward Boulder County Sheriff’s Office facilities, including the Boulder County Jail at 3200 Airport Road and the Sheriff’s Office Headquarters at 5600 Flatiron Parkway, Boulder.

During the investigation, sheriff’s office personnel determined that the calls originated from Tyler Boyd Reilly, D.O.B. Jan. 7, 1986, a former Boulder County Sheriff’s Office deputy who had previously worked in both the jail and patrol divisions. He resigned on May 25, 2024, in lieu of termination for cause.

Sheriff’s Office personnel were notified, and efforts began to locate Reilly. At approximately 12:37 a.m., law enforcement databases indicated that Reilly’s vehicle had traveled northbound on State Highway 287 from Dillon Road in Boulder County.

Due to the threats made against sheriff’s office facilities, deputies were staged at the Headquarters, Jail, and Communications campuses, each of which had staff inside during the incident, in preparation for Reilly’s possible arrival.

At about 1:08 a.m., a Boulder County Sheriff’s Office sergeant observed Reilly at the front door of the Sheriff’s Office Headquarters. Reilly was armed with an AR‑15 style rifle and fired multiple rounds at the entry area of the building. No entry was gained, and personnel were inside the Headquarters at the time. Deputies confronted Reilly outside the Headquarters entryway and took him into custody without incident.

As the investigation continued, it was later learned that Reilly was also suspected of stopping at the Broomfield Police Department, 7 Descombes Drive, Broomfield, where he fired rounds at multiple police vehicles.

There have been no reported injuries in Boulder or Broomfield counties related to this incident. There is no ongoing threat to the public.

The investigation is active, and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office will release additional information, including charges, as it becomes available. Any body-worn camera footage or other video evidence related to this incident is not being released at this time, due to the ongoing investigation.

As in every criminal case, these charges are merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.
