Public meetings are anticipated to be held in summer 2026

Key Points

  • The Boulder to Erie Regional Trail (BERT) is now in the design phase.
  • Environmental surveys and engineering analyses are underway to inform trail design and minimize potential impacts.
  • Visit the BERT website for project information, timelines, and ways to stay informed.

Boulder County, Colo. - Boulder County is pleased to share that the Boulder to Erie Regional Trail (BERT) is now in the design phase, marking the next step toward a soft-surface regional trail connecting the City of Boulder and the Town of Erie.

Following adoption of the BERT Plan by the Boulder County Board of County Commissioners in October 2024, the project team is now refining the preferred trail alignment through environmental surveys and engineering analysis. This work will help identify and mitigate potential impacts while informing trail design, structures, crossings, and permitting requirements, and preparing the project for future funding and phased construction.

Over the coming months, community members may notice members of the project team working in or near the rail right-of-way as they conduct field surveys and environmental studies to support the design process.

The project website has been updated with background information, timelines, and details about upcoming engagement opportunities.

Public engagement will continue throughout design. The first public meetings are anticipated to be held in summer 2026, with additional opportunities for adjacent landowners and partner agencies to provide input.
