Projects will receive funding from the Boulder County Climate Equity Fund
Key Points
- Boulder County will give over $2 million to 15 local projects that help communities most affected by climate change.
- The projects focus on food access, clean energy, education, and emergency preparedness, and are led by people from the communities they serve.
- The projects will take place across the county, from the incorporated cities to the unincorporated and mountain areas.
Boulder County, CO — The Board of County Commissioners has approved over $2 million in Climate Equity Fund grants to support 15 community projects that advance climate justice, resilience, and equity across Boulder County. The selected projects support food justice, youth education, clean energy, emergency preparedness, and culturally rooted climate leadership.
“We are living in a country, at a time right now, where everything that has to do with climate action at a federal level is being questioned or eliminated, and I am proud that Boulder County is not backing down on our commitment to climate.” said Commissioner Marta Loachamin. “With these grants, I'm hopeful the people most affected by climate change will see improvements to homes, community spaces, and everyday lives.”
More than 50 organizations applied, requesting over $12 million in funding. This level of interest underscores the urgency of the climate crisis and the community’s readiness to co-create solutions. The grant recipients represent a cross-section of Boulder County, from rural mountain towns to mobile home parks, and from immigrant-led nonprofits to youth-driven education initiatives.
The projects will be completed in 2026 and include the creation of resilience hubs, culturally relevant classroom content to teach about climate change, community gardens at 8,400 feet, and the installation of cooling screens on mobile homes.

About the Climate Equity Fund
In 2024, the Boulder County Office of Sustainability, Climate Action & Resilience (OSCAR) conducted a comprehensive review of climate justice best practices. In alignment with these leading approaches, the Boulder County Commissioners directed OSCAR to launch the Climate Equity Fund to expand frontline community access to public funding. Boulder County allocated $2.5 million for the 2025 round of the Climate Equity Fund; unspent funds will roll over to a 2026 round the fund.
Boulder County faces growing threats from climate change, including more frequent wildfires, extreme heat, drought, and flooding. These hazards strain local infrastructure, worsen air quality, and disproportionately impact vulnerable residents, especially low-income families, seniors, and communities of color. As these risks intensify, so does the need for community-driven, equitable climate solutions.
