Boulder County, Colo. – In an effort to expand wildfire mitigation services to more residents, Boulder County is proud to announce the launch of the Wildfire Partners East County Individual Home Assessment Program, a new initiative specifically designed to support homeowners in rural, low-density areas of unincorporated eastern Boulder County. The new program provides eligible homeowners with a free customized home assessment and report by a trained Wildfire Mitigation Specialist.

Since 1989, Boulder County has led comprehensive wildfire mitigation efforts primarily in the western part of the county. Programs have included educational outreach, defensible space evaluations, chipping services, home assessments, and certification through the nationally recognized Wildfire Partners program. Following the Marshall Fire in 2021, the county expanded efforts in the eastern region by offering $500 mitigation rebates to all homeowners, providing a community-based mitigation services, expanding its chipping and youth corps programs, and supporting strategic fuels and ditch mitigation efforts.

“Thanks to the passage of a dedicated Wildfire Mitigation Sales Tax in 2022, Boulder County has grown and diversified its Wildfire Partners programs to better serve all communities—both east and west,” said Ashley Stolzmann, Boulder County Commissioner.

While many residents in eastern Boulder County live in high-density neighborhoods and municipalities that are well-suited for the Wildfire Partners Community Mitigation Program, a number of residents live in low-density, rural areas where a community approach isn’t feasible. To address this gap, the East County Individual Home Assessment Program now offers individual wildfire assessments to those rural residents.

“Expanding our services to rural eastern Boulder County fills a critical gap in our overall wildfire mitigation strategy,” said Jim Webster, Program Manager. “Every home matters, and this program ensures that homeowners outside of high-density communities can access expert assessments and guidance tailored to their unique wildfire risks.”

Boulder County remains committed to ensuring wildfire mitigation and preparedness is accessible and effective across all landscapes—from forested mountains to open plains.
