Jan. 3 slash pile burn at Sherwood Gulch: Chickadee and Sherwood Forest trails closed.

Smoke may be visible north of Nederland, west of Hwy 72.

Boulder County, Colo. - Boulder County Parks & Open Space and the Sheriff’s Office Fire Management Program plan to conduct slash pile burns at Sherwood Gulch (north of Nederland) beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3. The Chickadee and Sherwood Forest trails will be closed during the burn and reopened when it is safe to do so. Smoke may be visible north of Nederland: west of Hwy 72 in the area between Indian Peaks Drive and CR 126.

Pile burns are conducted to reduce the amount of fuel on the ground as a result of forest thinning operations. The fire crews burn when there is a winter weather system in the area and conditions are favorable. Operations are only conducted when there is sufficient snow cover to ensure safe fire operations and containment.
